Sustainability & Environmental awareness

The Walchseer Hof - one of the most sustainable and environmentally-aware businesses in the Kaiserwinkl region

Refurbishment work started in 2009 with the aim of providing guests with environmentally-sound and sustainable comfort, for a well-being holiday that could be enjoyed with a clear conscience. Certification with the Austrian environmental seal of approval has helped us with this endeavour and provides support in helping us continue to improve our environmental-oriented service. We would be delighted if our guests were to provide us with suggestions and information. Enjoy environmentally-friendly holidays in Austria with a clear conscience and enjoy sustainable, ecological style. Sustainability and an environmentally sound stay contribute to a relaxing well-being holiday in the Walchseer Hof. Experience holistic rest and relaxation at Walchsee and recharge your batteries.

Sustainable building methods – Renewable energy sources

Isospan is used for insulation. Heat production is chiefly by a heat pump, solar facilities and a heat recovery system. The heat recovery system ensures convenient ventilation and a constant supply of fresh air. Wall heating ensures an ambience of well-being even in the winter. In the main building, there are 13 rooms, with views to the village and to the lake; 11 of which are 'A Little Luxury' suites, which feature wood flooring. All rooms have solid Swiss stone pine furnishing made by local carpenters and guests are welcomed with a carafe of quality Walchsee spring water, while in the bathrooms high-quality liquid organic soap and shower gel by Walde in Innsbruck is provided.

Careful handling of our precious resources

We treat the natural resources that are available to us with great care. We also encourage our guests to save resources. There are also rubbish separation facilities in all rooms and we would ask you to save water and energy. Running the hotel, we also pay heed to purchasing food in bulk and carefully separate any waste that we produce.

For this reason, we also do without air conditioning and refrigerators. You are welcome to borrow an environmentally friendly refrigerator with a Peltier system at the reception for a fee of €2.50 per day. (limited quantity)

Sustainable shopping

Sustainable shopping When it comes to choosing suppliers and produce we pay attention to regional, seasonal produce to ensure the best quality and support the local economy. In selecting meat, sausages and game our focus is on species-appropriate animal husbandry and ensure that natural feed, with no artificial additives, is given to the animals - something that Metzgerei Huber in Kitzbühel provides. Enhanced with organic herbs from our own garden. For breakfast we focus on short supply chain, with bread coming from the bakery next door, milk from local organic farmers and dairy products and cheeses from surrounding Alpine dairies. Organic Fairtrade coffee from Meinl and organic honey from Honigmair complete the range available on your breakfast table. Every day our guests can avail of freshly brewed herbal tea, made from different herbs, in the lobby - free of charge.

Environmental seal of approval - of note for tourist businesses

The guest who is environmentally aware demands quality - not just when it comes to the facilities available in their accommodation, but also in their food. Every tourist-oriented business that holds the Austrian environmental seal of approval, meets this responsibility. The priority in their cooking is the use of organically produced foods and species-appropriate animal husbandry. Those who are holders of this seal of approval prefer to purchase seasonal produce from regional suppliers. In their comprehensive and practiced affirmation of environmental practices, these tourist-oriented businesses are role models for other branches in the industry.

We are proud that the 4 star Hotel Walchseer Hof is a designated environmental and sustainably built hotel!
